Section 278 Case Study. Civils works Flexible Carriageway Construction, Ground Reinforcement Grids, Kerbs & Edgings within a S278 project.
We were contracted by the Highways agency to complete the Section 278 works for a proposed 9 acre lorry park in Bedford. The works involved closing an existing lay-by just north of the Black Cat roundabout along the A1 and constructing a new slip road and entrance.
Site Clearance, Drainage Works, Earthworks, New Highway & Footway construction and landscaping along with Street lighting, draw pits and ducts made up the section 278 civils package for this contract.
Acting as principle contractor and working alongside a major highway such as the A 1 brings with it numerous hazards. Meticulous planning and stringent H&S procedures ensured these works ran smoothly with no incidents or accidents reported. As a result of the meticulous planning and close working relationship developed with the HA’s managing agent Carillion the project was finished to a very high standard. The finished product impressed all involved.
